Yes, as the capital city. There are a wide range of activities and attractions to visit. It may not be as many as in Barcelona but definitely a different one.
For example, visiting Prado Museum, chill and relax in El Retiro Park, vintage shopping at El Rastro on Sundays, shopping in Gran Vía and Salamanca neigbourhood, nightout party to the best clubs, enjoy good traditional or fusion Spanish food or simply have some cocktails outdoor or rooftop bars.
Before visiting Madrid, it´s helpful know that the city experiences hot summers and mild winters, so dress accordingly. It can have 3 or more types of weather change in 1 day. From chilly morning, to warm afternoon, to a rainy evening and a cold night. No weather forecasts can really predict these.
Secondly, Spanish is the main language although in some tourist areas, they speak English, it´s better that you have a few basic phrases with you.
Lastly, meal times can be later than your normal time. Lunch usually starts from 2pm and dinner around 9pm or later. Mostly, the kitchen doesn´t open until 1pm. So better have some mid-day snack.
